Cost per resolution, explained

By Andrew Diaz · APR 15, 2026 · 5 min read

Most AI vendors report volume: messages handled, questions answered. We optimize a different number — cost per resolution — because it is the one that maps to your P&L.

A resolution, not a reply

A reply is the AI saying something. A resolution is the customer’s need actually met — the question answered, the booking made, the issue closed — without a human having to step in. Counting replies rewards activity; counting resolutions rewards outcomes.

How RVERE reports it

For every channel, RVERE tracks what share of conversations resolved without escalation and what each resolution cost to produce. That gives you a live, honest read: not "the AI was busy," but "the AI handled this much of the front line, at this cost."

Why we optimize it

Cost per resolution is where revenue and cost meet. Drive it down and a large service or sales floor becomes a lean escalation team — you keep the people who close, and the AI carries the volume. It is the number we tune the system against.

Anyone can show you a chart of messages. We would rather show you the cost of getting the work done.
